![]() ZBrush Fullscreen screenshot of ZBrush 4.0 A regular contributor to 3D World, he edited the magazine for a period of two years.Below are some things to consider when trying to figure out how to undo in sculptris. Steve Jarratt has been into CG for many years. ![]() Sadly, it seems that Sculptris is no longer being developed and Tomas Petterson has left Pixologic, so grab the app while it's still around. Sculptris connects with ZBrush via the GoZ bridge, and is great for those starting out. Again, the only issue is that the resulting mesh is dense and composed only of triangles, which is fine for static objects but will need retopologising if it's to be animated or used in a low-poly environment. This small app was a hobby coding project developed by Tomas Petterson, but proved so impressive that it was picked up by Pixologic in 2010, with Tomas joining the programming team.īy using triangular polygons and 'Dynamic Tesselation', it allows users to quickly draw and sculpt, creating forms and – like Blender or 3D Coat – letting the app add geometry as needed. BlenderĪn alternative to Blender is Sculptris. It's a little unconventional and slightly rough around the edges, but 3D Coat provides serious competition to the big guns from Pixologic and Autodesk. Not only that but the app also has a comprehensive UV mapping and a painting toolset which supports UV texturing, micro-vertex painting and Ptex UV-less texturing – all of which are useful for any CG modellers, not just 3D Coat users. The sculpted shape is then turned into a surface (ignoring the volume beneath and speeding up operations), where it then works much like any sculpting app.īecause 3D Coat objects are made from triangles, the finished model needs to be retopologised to create a workable mesh, and the app provides some excellent automatic and manual retopologising tools. The advantage over more traditional polygon-based system is that you don't need to worry about the underlying topolgy you simply draw out a volume, adding or removing geometry at will, and the program adds voxels as necessary. 3D Coat takes a different approach to the other apps here, in that the user sculpts using voxels, or three-dimensional pixels. ![]() ModoĪppearing pretty much out of nowhere, 3D Coat was developed by Andrew Shpagin, a Ukrainian game dev tool programmer. You can of course texture your models in Cinema 4D using Bodypaint, but users are hoping for an integrated sculpting/painting system in a future update. The newly announced R16 update adds even more features with drawing along splines, poly selection masking and the use of procedural materials as stencils and masks. The system also features mirroring and mesh projection, which transfers your high-res sculpted detail onto a low-res poly mesh for retopologising. ![]() Like ZBrush and Mudbox, it features multi-resolution sculpting, with advanced symmetry options and comes with a range of brushes, stencils and stamps for adding fine details.īecause it's an integral part of the program, you can sculpt your object, and then immediately do a full render with it in situ, and the sculpting tools work across the app, so you can smooth out irregular points, for example. ![]() One of the surprise features introduced with the 2012 release of Cinema 4D Studio R14 was its new sculpting module. ![]() ![]() ![]() Some COPD patients with severe symptoms were already using all 3 therapies with multiple inhalers, but this new therapy offered the chance to combine all 3 molecules in a single inhaler, used once a day. The triple therapy from GlaxoSmithKline combines the inhaled glucocorticoid fluticasone furoate (FF) with umeclidinium (UMEC), a long-acting muscarinic antagonist (LAMA), and the LABA vilanterol (VI). The session also covered upcoming label changes for cough syrup to keep medicines with opioids away from children, a new treatment for cystic fibrosis, and more choices for treating severe asthma. FDA’s Banu Kamiri-Shah, MD, discussed how the fixed-dose combination therapy rule works for COPD medications, and how the rule was interpreted in the approval process for triple therapy. Officials from the FDA Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Rheumatology Products (DPARP) explained how the agency’s processes led to 2 landmark decisions in the past year involving combination therapy in asthma and COPD, during Monday’s update for attendees at the annual ATS meeting, taking place in San Diego, California.īesides the September approval for Trelegy Ellipta, in December FDA removed the boxed warning from several therapies that combine an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) and a long-acting beta2-adrenergic agonist (LABA). What’s more, in designing a large trial for a specific population-patients with a history of exacerbations-GlaxoSmithKline found that its drug produced a dramatic reduction in all-cause mortality, compared with the treatment many patients would be taking before they tried triple therapy. This allowed Trelegy Ellipta to go from a narrow indication in September 2017 to a broader approval on April 24, 2018, based on results from IMPACT. Lipson presented full results from IMPACT on Sunday, at the American Thoracic Society (ATS) 2018 International Conference, and on Monday an FDA official described how the trial’s design addressed specific requirements in the agency’s rule for fixed-dose combinations. Globally, there’s been a question about the benefit-risk balance of using inhaled corticosteroids in COPD,” he said. But they also increase risk of pneumonia. “We know that inhaled steroids reduce risk of exacerbation. “There has been a long controversy in the use of inhaled corticosteroids in COPD,” said David Lipson, director of clinical drug discovery for GlaxoSmithKline, in an interview with The American Journal of Managed Care®. When GlaxoSmithKline designed the IMPACT trial for Trelegy Ellipta, it sought to fill gaps in the evidence: would adding an inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) benefit patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who were having exacerbations? ![]() ![]() In short, eidetic phenomenology strives for a priori eidetic knowledge ( Wesenserkenntnis), i.e., knowledge of essences and eidetic laws. In Husserl’s view, eidetic phenomenology differs from empirical sciences both methodologically and in the kind of knowledge it seeks. In Ideen I and III, Husserl introduces phenomenology as an eidetic science by opposing it to empirical or factual sciences. ![]() The goal is to lay the methodological groundwork for a self-correcting and integrative account of eidetic variation and illustrate its usefulness in research practice. ![]() Then, I turn to three applications of eidetic variation in order to examine how eidetic phenomenology could draw from real-life deviations, artificial variations, and critical–historical reflection. To substantiate these claims, I first contrast the self-correcting account with the falsificationist interpretations of eidetic variation. More specifically, I argue that the self-correcting account of eidetic variation 1) is consistent with Husserl’s own formulations of his eidetic methodology and epistemic principles 2) captures the dual epistemic function of eidetic variation as means for both testing and intuitively validating eidetic claims and 3) offers methodological support for contemporary attempts to integrate eidetic variation with non-eidetic methods and resources. In this article, I develop a self-correcting account of Husserl’s method of eidetic variation, arguing that eidetic variation plays a critical role in both challenging and improving upon the eidetic results in phenomenology. Husserl believes that such eidetic knowledge has a higher epistemic status than the inherently fallible empirical knowledge, but a closer reading of his work shows that even eidetic claims are subject to error and open to modification. Edmund Husserl’s eidetic phenomenology seeks a priori knowledge of essences and eidetic laws pertaining to conscious experience and its objects. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you are having a large party of 80 people or more we recommend making a 2nd batch and topping off the single machine OR renting our Taylor 430. ![]() We will mix the first batch for you and show you how to mix additional batches if needed. In the case of some creatures (i.e., sea serpents), sightings and questions of authenticity still remain. It would take hundreds of years of dedicated scientific study and exploration to overturn classical and common opinion. And even when scientists began to embrace the scientific method, they still struggled to reconcile previous beliefs in the supernatural with science. There was no division between magic and reality-the two simply coexisted, so there was no reason to doubt mythical beasts. The Scientific Revolution would not start to make headway until later in the 17th century. The 1500s were rampant with superstition. The atmosphere of the day also fed people’s willingness to believe such tales. The more the stories were circulated and published, the more likely people were to mistake what they did see for a monster. Magnus and others like him gobbled up the stories and published them alongside authentic species. A giant squid became a blood-thirsty kraken. And so an oarfish became a 200-foot-long sea serpent. If they enlivened their accounts, that simply made for a better story. So they explained them with what they knew well: myths and legends. Sailors, or beachgoers who had the misfortune to stumble upon a rotting basking shark, had no experience with such creatures. ![]() Sea serpent gif created by Richard Naples (Smithsonian Libraries) based on a depiction by Conrad Gessner in Historia Animalium, 2nd ed., 1604. Less often, the decomposing remains of a washed-up carcass fueled confidence in the existence of these terrible beasts. More often than not, their information came not from first-hand observations but from sailors’ accounts of mysterious encounters while at sea. Publications by Magnus and those who copied him represented some of the first attempts to systematically aggregate and describe these animals. These “distorted portraits” came about in part because by the 1500s extensive oceanic exploration was still limited, and the fauna that called these places home remained virtually unknown. ![]() In his publication Sea Fables Explained (1883), he wrote, “… the descriptions by ancient writers of so-called ‘fabulous creatures’ are rather distorted portraits than invented falsehoods, and there is hardly any of the monsters of old which has not its prototype in Nature at the present day.” Where did the accounts of monsters come from in the first place? Were they simply fairy tales invented to scare curious minds and small children? Henry Lee, who wrote extensively on sea creatures and monsters, emphasized that many classical monsters are not simply pure myth. ![]() And over the centuries, many new monsters were added to the mix. Such repurposing ensured that these creatures were ingrained in the public mind as truth. Magnus’ descriptions and drawings were copied repeatedly, with little to no modification, for centuries by such historical titans as Edward Topsell, Ulisse Aldrovandi, John Jonstonus and Conrad Gessner, whose Historia Animalium, replete with Magnus’ drawings, is the first modern zoological work attempting to describe all known animals. Smithsonian Biodiversity Heritage Library Kraken gif created by Richard Naples, based on a drawing by Denys Montfort in Histoire naturelle, générale et particulière des mollusques: animaux sans vertèbres et a sang blanc, v.2, 1801. ![]() His standing and reputation secured the widespread acceptance of his stories. Carta Marina is a detailed map of Scandinavia-one of the oldest ever created-and it depicts the Norwegian Sea so teaming with monsters that it would seem impossible to escape these waters uneaten. In 1555, Magnus published Historia de Gentibus Septentrionalibus (“A Description of the Northern Peoples”), which not only related the history, customs, and beliefs of the Scandinavian people, but also reprinted and described the creatures found on Carta Marina. His travels brought him farther north than any of his contemporary European intellectuals, lending a great deal of perceived credibility to his accounts and publications. Magnus (1490-1557) was the Catholic archbishop of Sweden and a prominent historian. One of the most famous of these maps is Olaus Magnus’ Carta Marina, drawn between 1527and 1539. They mostly crop up in unexplored reaches of the oceans, warning would-be explorers of the perils of these unknown territories. Though the phrase itself is found on only one other historical artifact-a 1504 globe crafted on an ostrich egg-depictions of monsters and mythological beasts are common on early maps. This phrase translates from the Latin as “here are dragons.” It is etched on the eastern coast of Asia on one of the oldest terrestrial globe maps, the Lenox Globe, dating to 1510. ![]() ![]() ![]() If you prefer, or if you’re against the clock and you’d like to enquire about an express payment, you can always speak to a specialist directly and make your payment over the phone.
